Swiss-born artist Nicolas Party works across a wide range of different media. Primarily known for his colour-saturated paintings and murals, he also makes painted sculptures, pastels, installations, prints and drawings, and works as a curator. Party often paints portraits and still lifes of everyday objects, which he strips of all extraneous detail. Rather than creating faithful depictions from nature, he uses these seemingly innocuous subjects as springboards for an exploration into the art of painting itself.

Party has explored his painterly precision, vibrant colour palette and a keen eye for composition for his first ever blanket edition, continuing a long standing art-historical dialogue between representation and abstraction, and observation and the imagination.

The blanket is made on a hand-loom by master Scottish craftspeople with a rich heritage of knitwear and textile production using natural materials. The double-sided knitting style achieves a design rich finish. The front face of the blanket showcases the artist’s work, whilst a birdseye pattern driven by the knitting style, is achieved on the underside.

Blanket is machine washable.

Coffee pots, cups, cutlery, geometric shapes, plants and portraits – both human and animal – often appear in his work, which includes painting, drawing, sculpture, printmaking and curatorial projects. Party’s background as a graffiti artist gives his art both a particular sense of modern design culture and an ability to effortlessly manipulate scale and context.

Party is represented by The Modern Institute, Glasgow, Gregor Staiger, Zurich, Xavier Hufkens, Brussel and Kaufman Repetto, Milan.
