Nicolas Party - Portrait with A Seahorse Necklace Woodcut, Signed/Numbered (2022)

$0.00

Portrait with a Seahorse Necklace, a limited edition woodcut print by internationally renowned figurative painter Nicolas Party.

Portrait with a Seahorse Necklace’s mysterious, emblematic image revisits a 2018 pastel with the same name which appears on the front cover of the limited edition’s accompanying Phaidon monograph. The bold woodcut print underscores the artist’s predilection for impactful imagery that emphasizes fluidity, immediacy, and mystery, just as in the coveted pastel paintings for which Party is widely celebrated.

Nicolas Party is critically lauded for his intensely saturated and idiosyncratic imagery—androgynous portraits, fantastical landscapes, and graphic patterns—applied to diverse media including canvases, ceramics, and architectural interventions. His affinity for unconventional media can be traced to diverse artistic experimentation in his early adolescence, including graffiti and mural painting.

Nicolas Party (born 1980 in Lausanne, Switzerland) lives and works in New York. Within his works is a 21st-century synthesis of the sorts of impulses and ideas that fueled the Renaissance and late-19th- and early-20th-century figurative painting, the compositional strategies of Rosalba Carriera and Rachel Ruysch, and the visions of such self-taught artists as Louis Eilshemius and Milton Avery. His work has been exhibited internationally including recent solo exhibitions at the Hirshhorn Museum and Sculpture Garden, Washington, DC (2021); Le Consortium, Dijon (2021); MASI Lugano (2021); FLAG Art Foundation, New York (2019); M WOODS, Beijing (2018-2019); and Magritte Museum, Brussels (2018).
