Revington Arthur - Large Vintage Abstract Still Life, Signed (1949, Oil on Canvas). Abstract still life with vase and objects. Housed in a rough hewn barn wood frame. Attached en verso are five original exhibition labels from shows around 1952-1958 (Exhibited: Chautauqua Art Association; Silvermine Guild; New Canaan Outdoor Jan 1959; St. Lawrence Valley Exhibition, July-Aug 1952). In good condition with wear consistent with age. Two small flakes on the canvas as shown in the photos. Overall wear to the frame consistent with the material.

AJ Revington Arthur was born in Stamford, CT, and traveled America looking for inspiration. While in school he studied under notable artists including George Luks, Arshile Gorky, Kimon Nicholaides, and Grant Reynard. During his career his work was exhibited throughout America including at the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Art, the Connecticut Academy of Fine Arts, the Carnegie Institute, and was published in Time and Esquire magazines. His work is in permanent collections in The Brooklyn Museum, The Delaware Museum, and the Albright-Knox Art Gallery. He was a member of the Silvermine Guild, and spent forty-three summers teaching at the Chautauqua Art Summer School in Chautauqua, New York, eventually becoming the director, from 1945 through 1983.
