Bruno Lastrucci (Italian, 1943-2021) - Vintage Italian Pietra Dura Mosaic, Signed. Vintage pietra dura Florentine landscape with a house. Housed in a gold leaf wood frame. Signed in the lower right corner. In good condition with wear consistent with age.

Size: 8.25 × 10 in

Bruno (1943-2021) was known as the master of Florentine Commesso, or Pietra Dura. He worked in Florence with his son Iacopo at their studio in Santa Croce. One of Bruno's most notable masterpieces, the portrait of J.F. Lizzadro, is on display at the Lizzadro Museum of Lapidary Art near Chicago. Bruno produced all mosaics in accordance with the original techniques dating back to the 16th century, which highlight the natural color of every stone.

As in the 16th century, every piece is cut with a simple saw made of a tree branch bent in the form of a bow with an iron wire stretched from end to end and covered with water and emery powder; the pieces are then glued together with a mixture of virgin wax and pine resin.
