Antique Solomon Islands Hand Carved Wood Bowl with Abalone Inlay. Hand carved from a single piece of Alstoiaa Scholars wood. On either end of this oval ceremonial bowl are abstracted Bonito fish motifs with small figures resting directly below. Geometric shaped inlay of abalone shell adorn the exterior of the bowl and along the fish detailing on the sides. Painted black using a mixtures of plant resin and charcoal. Original museum tags are attached at the bottom of the pedestal. In good condition with wear consistent with age. Minor scratches and scuffs along the body.
